Lung Transplant Research Support

Lungaversary

Every lung transplant recipient remembers the day they received their donated organs. Like a birthday, it is a day for celebration, reflection, and gratitude. A Lungaversary!

John and I are thrilled to support The Lung Transplant Foundation. In our efforts to help fund lung transplant research, we have set up a fundraising page. Our goal is to raise $2,500 to support the foundation by my lungaversary on May 25, 2021.

Please consider helping give more people a chance to celebrate their Lungaversary by giving through my campaign

Keep in mind your donation is tax-deductible!

Why Support The Lung Transplant Foundation?

2020 wasn’t exactly the finest year for my family or many others. However, it did guide us to some fantastic organizations making a real difference in countless people’s lives.

In our world’s current pandemic state, lungs are in the spotlight. A multitude of families has had to face lung trauma because of Covid-19. However, many others have been struggling for years with diseases like cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary edema, and interstitial lung disease, to name a few.

My myositis didn’t present itself until it was in full attack mode. I had no time to fight it. Within weeks of discovering there was a real problem, I lost both of my lungs. I’m forever grateful to my donor and their family for giving me a second chance at life, but there’s a possibility my body will reject this gift at some point.

Since lungs are constantly exposed to the environment through breathing, the reality is that lung transplant rejection rates are higher than that of any other transplanted organ.

The Lung Transplant Foundation is an advocate for lung transplant research. They also offer education and emotional support for transplant recipients and their caregivers through their mentorship program

Reading the many stories of hope has encouraged me over the past several months. I’m looking forward to reading many more as continued research leads to fewer transplant rejections.

Blessed Beyond Belief

God has blessed me beyond belief with my new lungs. Recovery has been smooth so far. I’ve been able to jump back into challenging workouts, and I see a lot of improvement. Pain has been very little. Lab results have been mostly positive, and my medications have adjusted to work through the small hiccups I’ve had to this point.

Health Matters Now

As always, I encourage you to make your health a priority now. Don’t wait! The healthier you are, the more likely you will be able to fight through should a significant health crisis happen.

Living a healthy lifestyle and being fit saved my life!
