“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” Isaiah 40:8
I love when Bible verses show up at just the right moments. Whether they pop up on social media, arrive in my inbox, or greet me in my morning Bible reading, they often encourage me exactly when I need them. Sometimes I pop into Canva to create a pretty design around a touching verse to share with my friends. But too often, I read them, feel encouraged, and move on. Times get tough, and the verses slip into the background.
Lately, I’ve been asking myself a hard question: Am I treasuring God’s promises, or am I just admiring them?
I read He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5), and I believe it—until I feel alone. I cling to the belief that all things work together for good (Romans 8:28), and then the bottom falls out, and I wonder: How could all this bad possibly work for good?
Why is it I can echo God’s promises so easily on smooth days but struggle to trust them on rough days?
Life can get messy.
An unexpected phone call from the doctor’s office, a loved one who keeps making destructive choices, the job that disappears, bills that don’t stop coming, a lonely Saturday afternoon.
Still, I keep coming back to this: circumstances do not shape God’s faithfulness. His promises aren’t based on performance or feelings, and they certainly aren’t mere suggestions or sentimental fillers for tough days. They are covenant-level truths: unbreakable and eternal.
What He said still stands. His Word does not depend on current events, my mood, or how distant I feel from Him. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). And when He says He will carry me, restore me, guide me, and never abandon me—He means it. He always has, and always will.
So, what would happen if, instead of measuring God’s faithfulness by my circumstances, I measured my circumstances against His faithfulness? Wouldn’t worry and frustration lose their hold?
When I live rooted in God’s faithfulness, I stop searching for stability in a world that cannot provide it. Slowly, I begin loosening my grip on fear and remembering that I’m not walking alone. I don’t always understand what He’s doing, but I can keep coming back to what I know is true about Him.
God’s promises aren’t simply words to admire or verses to share. They’re an invitation to know the unchanging character of the One who spoke them. And as I continue to trust His faithfulness more than my feelings or circumstances, I find myself spending less time looking for signs that He’s with me and more time noticing the evidence that He always has been.
Where have you noticed God’s faithfulness showing up in your life lately? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

I love the wisdom that you are exuding here. Yes I think when we really take a hard look at how God has walked with us in our past we start to see His true “covenantal” faithfulness is unwavering. A pastor at Southbrook told me one time when we were in a deep valley that what we read in James “Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” – James 1:2-4.
When we really are firing on all cylinders and knowing that we are closest to God during trials we get to a place where we actually ‘crave’ the trial. That is deep and I have not arrived there yet but there is something to be said. Thank you Lana for sharing this…
Thank you for sharing, Sean. Such great verses. I haven’t certainly reached the point of craving trials either, but I’m grateful for the endurance they have taught me and how they have drawn me closer to the Lord.
Lana,
Great to hear from you and thanks so much for your blog! You write so beautifully and there’s so much that resonated with me, but perhaps what really stood out to me was at the end: “And as I continue to trust His faithfulness more than my feelings or circumstances, I find myself spending less time looking for signs that He’s with me and more time noticing the evidence that He always has been.” God’s faithfulness is in every day of my life – I just don’t always see it! Thanks again, my friend!
Thanks, Susan. I’m happy that you found a few nuggets in these words. May you notice His faithfulness each and every day. Blessings!
Thanks so much Lana! God is very patient with each of us. He provided a generous neighbor with a pool, the afternoon after I was on Zillow, looking for a nice house with a pool! God has incredible timing and takes incredible care of each of us! Thanks for reminding me of my part in the equation:-)
God bless neighbors (in my case sister-in-law) with pools! He pours blessing after blessing on us, even when we don’t ask. Thanks for sharing, Sue.
